Meet the volunteers

West Pennine Slings is run by a small group of committed volunteers. The volunteers are all babywearers themselves, and are interested in educating others about the benefits of babywearing.

West Pennine Slings is committed to providing sound, informed advice. All volunteers for WP Slings are either Trageschule consultants or Trageschule advocates. All certificates are available on request.

So, let’s meet the crew behind West Pennine Slings.

Katrina – Founder and Babywearing consultant

Hi, I’m Katrina and I am the founder of West Pennine Slings. I am a certified Trageschule babywearing consultant and have also completed the School of Babywearing consultancy course.  I am also a member of BABI (British Association of Babywearing Consultants) and fully insured for the work that we do.

I’m mama to Matilda and Corben. Matilda is the reason for the library and meet existing, from the day she was born she let us know that there was absolutely no way she was going to be put down for a second. Ever. She just liked her cuddles too much! So I started researching slings, got a stretchy wrap and we’ve never looked back. Now we have Corben slings have become even more valuable as he is just as cuddly as his sister. Matilda and Corben’s father loves to carry them too but isn’t too keen on my expensive sling habit. He can’t understand why one isn’t enough!

Alongside West Pennine Slings, I run Hold Close consultancy. This offers sound advice  in a private one-to-one teaching session. Many people with brand new babies, or babies with additional needs, or multiple babies find a consult at home a lot easier.   If this is of interest to you, please see details in the consultancy section.

Rebecca – Babywearing advocate

I have a lovely little girl Georgia who is 2 in March. I was given a high st carrier when she was small and loved wearing her, as did her Dad. But it didn’t last very long as the heavier she got the more uncomfortable it became. It took us a while to find out what we liked and suited our needs but thanks to the library we could hire before we bought. I love the closeness we get and Georgia loves it too she has me right there when she needs me.

Emma – Babywearing advocate

I have 3 children, Megan 12, Callum 9 and Erin 2. I carried all of them in carriers but it was only with Erin that I really found the love for woven wraps. Both my husband and I love the freedom that babywearing gives us and found in the
early days it was the only place that Erin was happy and content! She is now a very active 2 year old and loves to run and be free but still enjoys sleepy snuggles in the sling! We have made many friends on the way and I love sharing my experience and expertise with new parents at the sling meets as a volunteer. We look forward to our weekly meet with our friends and of course there’s always a slice of homemade cake and many pretty slings and babies to coo over too! I love all things homemade and crafty,
I am a baby massage instructor, I bake cakes for my mums tea room where I run weekly crochet lessons, I volunteer as a breastfeeding supporter and I am a volunteer doula! I also have 4 crazy Spaniels and a poodle so we like to keep very very busy! I don’t know how I would do all of the things I do without babywearing smile emoticon

Anne – Babywearing advocate

Hi, I’m Anne, mum to Toby, Max and another one due at the end of the year, I carried both of my sons and love the freedom it gives me. I am a big fan of woven wraps and love helping to introduce people to this lovely, slightly bonkers and cake filled world of baby snuggles

Beccy – Babywearing advocate

I’m Beccy and i can be found at the Burnley slingmeet. I have 2 wonderful daughters who I often wear at the same time!

I discovered babywearing when my eldest was 4 weeks old. i did some research, bought a woven wrap and have never looked back!! Babywearin
g for me has been so very helpful with my youngest as she had colic and would only settle in a sling. But it’s also helped me create a strong and solid bond with both my girls through the fog of postnatal depression and I have gained a truly awesome set of friends and feel like i have found my passion in life and somewhere that I belong.

Amy – Babywearing advocate

I’m Amy, mum of two little girls. I bought a ring sling when I was pregnant with my eldest but found I preferred my Baby Bjorn. I loved the convenience of babywearing so when she got to about 4 months I started looking for more options and discovered loads more types of carriers. With a 19 month age gap between our girls, my husband and I found slings invaluable and our youngest still likes to be worn on longer walks. I am trained as a Trageschule peer supporter and am booked to be trained as a consultant with Slingababy next spring. I also run Bolton and Bury Sling Library along with Kate.
